Why Do We Care So Much About What People Think?
And how to stop letting it hold you back in business
We all do it. We overthink. We replay what people might say about us. We hold back from posting, from showing up, from telling our story because in the back of our minds we’re hearing the voices of our ex, old friends, haters, or even family.
And if you’re building a brand, this mindset can quietly destroy your progress.
Why it matters for your business
One of the most common questions I get when I’m live on Tiktok is: Do I have to show my face on TikTok? And my answer is always the same. If you don’t, you’re putting yourself at a major disadvantage compared to the entrepreneurs who do.
Think about it. When was the last time you fell in love with a brand just because of a hoodie or a top? Chances are, you also connected with the story behind it. You saw who was creating it. You saw the journey. That’s what makes you buy in.
People want to connect with more than just a piece of clothing. They want to know who you are. They want to feel the energy behind the brand. And the truth is, when you hide your face, you’re also hiding the story that makes your business magnetic.
The fear of being seen
I get it. Showing your face is uncomfortable. What if people laugh? What if your cousin sees it and makes a comment? What if your ex is watching?
But here’s the truth: nobody starts perfect. You have to be bad at something before you get good at it. The people you see thriving now didn’t just wake up with confidence and strategy. They posted awkward videos. They tried. They kept showing up.
Trendy entrepreneurs like Alix Earle, Monet McMichael, or even small fashion founders you see all over TikTok didn’t explode overnight because they had the best product. They exploded because they built connection. They let people in. They embraced the cringe phase.
How to shift your mindset
So here’s what I want you to remember.
If you are waiting until you feel ready, you will wait forever.
If you are waiting until you’re perfect on camera, you’ll never start.
And if you are worried about people judging you, those same people will still talk whether you do it or not.
You can either let them talk while you stay stuck, or you can let them talk while you build the life you’ve been dreaming of.
When you finally let go of the fear, your brand will grow faster than you think. You’ll attract people who love your honesty. You’ll inspire other creators who are watching from the sidelines. And you’ll feel lighter because you’ll stop carrying the weight of other people’s opinions.
A personal note
I want you to think of me like a mentor in your corner, reminding you of this every day. You don’t need anyone’s permission to be seen. You just need to show up. Every single day. Three posts a day. Even when it feels uncomfortable.
Because here’s the reality: your brand’s success is waiting on the other side of that fear.

Absolutely love this
