Stop Waiting for the Perfect Budget to Start Your Brand

One of the most common questions I get is, “How much money do I need to start my brand?” And honestly, I don’t love that question. Not because it’s bad to be curious about finances, but because it makes so many people delay taking action. If I tell you I started with X amount of dollars, you’ll probably convince yourself you need to wait until you have that exact number before you do anything. And that’s just not the reality of how brands are built.

The truth is, you could start today. There are things you can do for free, things you can do for $10, and things you can do for $100 that will push your brand forward. I didn’t wait until I had thousands saved up. I started slowly, step by step:

  • Ordering one sample at a time instead of an entire collection

  • Signing up for a Shopify free trial and testing out my brand name, logo, and product mockups

  • Creating mood boards, brand pillars, and social content using free tools like Canva and Pinterest

  • Sharing my journey online even before I had inventory in hand

Here’s what that could look like for you:

Things you can do for FREE:

  • Start posting TikToks about your journey (you don’t need inventory yet, people connect with your story)

  • Create a mood board or brand world on Pinterest

  • Write down your brand pillars, mission, and customer avatar in Google Docs

  • Use Canva free to make logo drafts, Instagram story templates, and basic marketing assets

  • Research and connect with manufacturers on Alibaba

Things you can do for $10–$20:

  • Invest in affordable fashion sketches to bring your ideas to life

  • Buy a domain name
